KUALA LUMPUR, December 16 - Psychological First Aid (PFA) is very important to help flood-affected residents manage and control their emotions after facing a disaster.
NGO Empati President and Founder, Syahida Zulkarnain said such a psychological support approach helps individuals experiencing crisis to stabilise their emotions and overcome the effects of post-flood trauma.
"For flood victims, it is more about uncertainty, insecurity and so on. Sometimes, among them are those who have little hope for the future. So, we have to take care of their emotions, watch and be wary of our words."
"There is still a gap in terms of managing emotions well. There are instances of those who only give material things, then leave them and so on."
"I really hope that the Malaysian community can help the flood victims more from an emotional point of view as well as provide moral support," said Syahida to a reporter today.
She was met by the reporter after appearing as a guest on the Selamat Pagi Malaysia show at Angkasapuri Kota Media.
She also explained that early psychological support assists through comprehensive mental recovery and strengthens resilience in facing future challenges.
