BUKIT BERUANG, 28 February - A total of 130 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel were subject to disciplinary action in January 2025, with 16 of them dismissed for various offences including integrity, corruption, crime, and drugs.
Director of the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS), Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad, said narcotics offences recorded the highest percentage, at 63 per cent, thus requiring special action and attention from PDRM.
"Of the 16 dismissed, four were senior officers with the rank of inspector, while the other 12 were lower-ranking personnel.
"Most of the cases involved narcotics abuse, either possession of drugs or positive urine tests. If the accused is convicted in court for a narcotics case, disciplinary action will be taken and usually ends with dismissal," he said.
He said this after the Handover Ceremony between Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar and Datuk Md Nazri Nawawi which was witnessed by JIPS Director, Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad, at the Melaka Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) Auditorium.
According to him, PDRM will not compromise on the issue of misconduct and disciplinary violations among its officers and members.
"Strict action is being taken to ensure that PDRM remains a force with integrity and continues to be trusted by the community," he added.
Meanwhile, Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar has been appointed as the new Melaka Police Chief, replacing Datuk Zainol Abu Samah who retired on January 3.
