SIBU, March 29 - A wiring company worker who was thrown from a boat in an incident in Sungai Batang Igan near Bungan Kecil in Mukah, about 160 kilometres (km) from here on Wednesday, was found drowned last night.
A spokesman for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre said the body of Saffuan Zaffarin, 30, was found by villagers who were participating in the search and rescue (SAR) operation at around 7.36pm.
“The body, found about one kilometre from where he was reported to have fallen, was then handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement.
The SAR operation, which entered its third day before the discovery of the body, involved searching an area within a radius of five to 10 km from the incident location in the morning while the search on the river surface continued in the afternoon.
In the incident at about 2.00pm on Wednesday, the victim is believed to have been thrown after the boat he was riding in hit a driftwood log while passing through the Bungan Kecil area, Batang Igan.
