SEREMBAN, January 2- In Negeri Sembilan, two senior citizens are among 16,929 candidates sitting for the 2024 SPM.
According to the Acting Director of the Negeri Sembilan Education Department, Putra Hashim, said the two private candidates over 60 years old were among the candidates sitting for the examination at the SM Summit 2 Centre, Seremban.
He said that in Negeri Sembilan this time there were 14,165 SPM candidates from government schools, 367 MRSM candidates, 70 state government school candidates, 714 private school candidates, 572 private candidates and 89 people's religious school candidates.
He added that a total of 10 SPM 2024 candidates sat for the examination in hospital due to health problems and accidents.
He said this at a press conference on the first day of the 2024 SPM written examination, at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Undang Jelebu, Kuala Klawang.
Meanwhile, JPNS has opened 145 examination centres across the state with 132 schools having SPM 2024 candidates.
JPNS is also prepared for any risks throughout the examination period including through Operation Payung to deal with floods and the expected Northeast Monsoon from 5 November 2025 until March 2025.
In Penang, a total of 19,225 students sat for the SPM 2024 written examination involving 155 examination centres.
State Education Director, Wan Sajiri Wan Hassan informed that of the total, 17,419 students were government school candidates.
He added that there were six students who took the examination at five hospital examination centres due to undergoing treatment due to accidents and health treatment.
He said this after visiting SMK Pondok Upeh Balik Pulau on the first day of the examination this morning.
A total of 174 students attended to sit for the examination at the school's Al Khawarizmi Hall.
Meanwhile in Perlis, the State Education Department has drawn up several plans as a preparation in case of an issue or unforeseen situation such as floods and others in the state.
According to Perlis Education Director Rose Aza Arifin, they are prepared to face unforeseen situations in the event of floods.
In Perlis, a total of 3,551 student candidates sat for the SPM examination in 36 schools throughout the state.
The total involved 3,77 candidates from government schools and government-aided religious schools.
262 MRSM candidates, 51 candidates from private schools, 116 private candidates and 45 candidates from religious secondary schools.
While 22 candidates were candidates with Special Educational Needs.
