PUTRAJAYA, 15 January – People residing in flood-prone areas are urged to remain vigilant and prepare for the possibility of flooding due to ongoing monsoon rains.
Unity Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil confirmed that the monsoon weather alert will remain in effect until January 19, specifically affecting three regions identified by MET Malaysia.
"This includes the southern part of Peninsular Malaysia, as well as Sarawak and Sabah. We urge residents, particularly in Johor, around Mersing and Pengerang, to exercise caution," he said.
"The same advice applies to those in Sarawak and Sabah, where the risk of flooding due to monsoon rains is significant. Stay prepared," he added.
Earlier, MET Malaysia also recommended that the public regularly check their official website and social media channels, and download the myCuaca app for the latest updates and accurate information.
In other news, Fahmi announced that Malaysia remains a top destination for foreign investments, including those from major organizations such as the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).
This follows the successful visit of the Prime Minister to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). During the visit, a Malaysian company secured an additional investment from an international investor consortium.
"Several entities, including ADIA, have expressed their intent to increase their investments in Malaysia. For example, following the Prime Minister’s announcement, we’ve learned of an additional RM1 billion investment in YINSON, a Malaysian company," he stated.
Earlier, it was reported that an indirect subsidiary of Yinson Holdings Bhd, Yinson Production Offshore Holdings Ltd (YPOHL), secured a US$1 billion (RM4.48 billion) investment from a consortium of international investors to fuel its growth.
The consortium includes ADIA's wholly owned subsidiary, Platinum Lily B 2024 RSC Ltd, as well as funds managed by British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) and RRJ Group.
Meanwhile, Fahmi, who also serves as the Minister of Communications, clarified that the government had not instructed the Attorney General’s Office (AGC) to seek a speech ban order on discussions regarding Additional Documents. He also confirmed that the matter was not addressed during today's Cabinet meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
