PASIR MAS, Dec 2- Various agencies, through Ops Payung, managed to relocate candidates sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination in flood-affected states, to be able to sit for the examination today.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said it was to ensure that more than 5,000 candidates were not left out from sitting for the exam.
The operation was completed yesterday and all students were placed in a dormitory equipped with various facilities including internet access.
The matter at once denies the claim that there are SPM candidates who were left out and that students had to stay at the surau or vice versa.
"I would like to emphasize that after yesterday's evacuation operation we were able to confirm that all our children were successfully rescued and relocated to better and more conducive dormitories, including all the states affected by the floods."
"We moved everyone to the dormitory, including the candidates who could not return to their respective states. They were given permission to take the exam at any available exam center," she said.
Fadhlina said this to reporters after inspecting several affected schools here.
She also said that the current flood situation will be used as a standard operating procedure (SOP) especially in Kelantan which is facing an extraordinary flood situation.
Ops Payung implemented by the Ministry of Education (KPM) began operations in various circumstances including emergency situations.
In the future, certain things, such as providing life jackets and boots to the officers involved, will be improved.
