KPWKM, agencies exploring intervention to address AI misuse

KPWKM minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri

KUCHING, 19 April - The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) is drafting more comprehensive intervention measures to address the issue of artificial intelligence (AI) misuse among school students.

KPWKM minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said that among the planned approaches is enhancing understanding among ministry officials through programs aligned with current technological developments.

"Besides the educational approach, I have also directed officials to examine the legal aspects, including the need to amend existing laws," she said to reporters at the ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering, here, today.

According to her, the ministry also received feedback from various organizations, such as Sisters in Islam, which is considered valuable input in shaping more effective policies.

Engagement sessions with relevant agencies and ministries are also being planned, including those that regulate social media and AI technology.

"We want this approach to involve various parties, not just KPWKM. We discussed this spontaneously earlier and will follow up with further action," she added.

Elaborating, dhe emphasized the importance of extending digital literacy programs to rural areas so that parents there are not left behind in understanding the challenges and risks associated with the latest technology.
