KUANTAN, May 3 -The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has called on local authorities (PBT) to take immediate steps to address the issue of unoccupied MyKiosk units across the country.
Minister Nga Kor Ming stressed that relevant authorities must ensure the kiosks are utilized effectively by eligible applicants.
He revealed that the KPKT Director-General has been instructed to identify unused kiosks and take swift action to resolve the matter.
“I acknowledge that some areas are not performing satisfactorily. That’s why I’ve directed the Director-General of the Local Government Department to engage with local council presidents (YDPs) for explanations.
"The PBTs must be accountable they applied for the kiosks, but are leaving them empty,” he said.
Nga noted that 156 local authorities have received kiosk allocations and are responsible for ensuring the facilities benefit the intended groups.
He made the comments after attending the Sentuhan Kasih 3.0 programme in Kampung Chempaka, Kuantan.
Meanwhile, Pahang State Executive Councillor for Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology, Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff, stated that MyKiosk units in Pahang will be distributed to approved applicants by June at the latest.
“The kiosks are currently being processed for distribution. We aim to complete the handover by this month or next,” he said.
Last year, RM100 million was allocated for the construction of MyKiosk units doubling the RM50 million allocation from the previous year.
The initiative is part of KPKT’s efforts to support the B40 group and micro, small, and medium enterprises (PMKS) by providing standardized, safe, and comfortable business premises.
