KUALA TERENGGANU, April 25 - A total of 25 buffaloes have died from Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (HS) in Kuala Terengganu since April 7th.

Terengganu Agriculture, Agro-Based Industry, Food Security and Commodities Committee Chairman Dr Azman Ibrahim announced in a statement that the livestock deaths were detected in Kampung Dusun Tembakau, Manir.

The livestock was confirmed positive for haemorrhagic septicaemia last Monday, based on post-mortem results and samples taken.

He said control and preventive actions had been taken including issuing quarantine order notices in accordance with Section 18 of the Animals Act 1953 that were handed over to the breeders yesterday.

A letter of notification prohibiting the movement of cattle or buffaloes in and out of several affected villages had been issued to curb the spread of the disease within five kilometres of the outbreak location.

"Therefore, the movement of cattle/buffaloes in and out of the said location is NOT ALLOWED except for the purpose of going to the slaughterhouse in Gong Badak, Kuala Nerus (Departmental Slaughterhouse) and the Licensed Private Slaughterhouse owned by Jusoh Tok Rimau, Kuala Terengganu only", he said in a statement on Facebook.

"This ban is effective immediately starting April 24th until a period to be announced later.

The ban involves seven sub-districts in Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus.
