SHAH ALAM, February 12– The government is actively promoting investment in the development of modern logistics centers to strengthen the country’s logistics sector, aiming to position Malaysia as a regional logistics hub.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasized the importance of modernizing the sector to enhance operational efficiency by integrating technology and automation.

"Modernization will significantly boost the trade, transportation, and logistics sectors. This is an area with great potential to create more job opportunities, and we are encouraging new investments that focus on technology," he said.

He added that the new warehouses being built will follow the "smart logistics" or "smart warehouse" concept, incorporating advanced technologies like robotic machines to streamline the transportation and unloading of goods. Loke shared this insight with reporters following the groundbreaking ceremony of the Exio Logistics Hub in Elmina.

Loke also highlighted the government's push to develop logistics hubs in other states, including the East Coast, leveraging the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project that will connect the Klang Valley with the region.

In a significant step forward, a joint venture between IJM and FMM Elmina has led to the creation of the Exio Logistics Hub, a state-of-the-art facility with over 100,000 pallet spaces and a processing capacity of 240 pallets per hour. Additionally, the hub is equipped with Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) to further optimize logistics operations.
