KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 – The Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) has called on the media to improve their accuracy in displaying the national symbols on the Jalur Gemilang, by conducting stricter inspections and checks on the use of technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) in image editing.

IKIM Director-General, Professor Datuk Dr Mohamed Azam Mohamed Adil, in a statement, stressed that his party seriously views any errors in the display of the national flag, whether intentional or not, as it can trigger sensitivities and affect the harmony in the country.

He also welcomed the immediate action from Sin Chew Daily which has issued an apology in three languages (Bahasa Malaysia, English, and Chinese) and promised to rectify the mistake in their digital and print versions.

Meanwhile, he urged the people of this country to handle the issue with maturity and mutual respect.

IKIM affirmed its commitment to promoting national unity and hoped that the issue could be a lesson to all parties to better appreciate the country's national symbols.
