IPOH, April 14– Hulu Kinta State Assemblyman (ADUN), Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad has yet to appear to give a statement to the police regarding the allegation of making a criminal threat using an object resembling a firearm.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said that so far, the police have recorded statements from eight individuals and are tracking down other witnesses who are believed to have seen the incident.
“We are still waiting for YB to appear at the police station to have his statement recorded. This case is still under investigation. Actually, we have not given him a deadline, but we hope he will appear this week.
"We understand he is also busy with the campaign in Ayer Kuning, so hopefully he will be able to appear soon, hopefully this week," he said in a press conference after the Ceremony of the Induction of Senior Police Officers and Handover of Duties of the District Police Chief and the Chairman of the District PERKEP for the Sungai Siput and Tapah IPDs at the Officers' Mess, here today.
Previously, a one-minute and five-second video recording went viral on social media showing a man believed to be the Hulu Kinta assemblyman brandishing an object resembling a firearm to a candidate and several individuals who were appealing for votes.
Meanwhile, Hisam informed that his side has so far not received any complaints or police reports regarding the Ayer Kuning State Legislative Assembly (DUN) By-Election.
He also explained that to date, five applications for public talks have been received and all have been approved.
“Since the nomination day last Saturday until yesterday, a total of 17 campaign activities have been carried out by the three contesting parties.
"Of the five applications for talks received, all have been approved.
"Two on Saturday and three more yesterday," he said.
At the same time, he also advised all contesting parties to continue campaigning in a prudent manner and to comply with the rules and regulations set throughout the by-election period.
"We hope that all parties will be able run the campaign in good condition and avoid anything that could cause tension or violate the law," he added.
