JUASSEH, March 1- The RM15 million allocation announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Thursday for rice farmers is set to reach its intended recipients without any losses.
This announcement brings welcome relief to rice farmers across the nation, especially as it coincides with the upcoming Ramadan and Aidilfitri celebrations.
Farmers from Kampung Terusan Hilir and Kampung Terusan Seberang in Kuala Pilah also expressed their gratitude for the government's support.
Rice farmer Nor Haini Mohd Yunus, speaking to reporters, shared that the assistance will help lighten the financial load, particularly during Ramadan and Aidilfitri.
"For Ramadan, it's important for our families to focus on the essentials, like children's needs, clothing, and food. We prioritize the well-being of our children and parents. This assistance will certainly ease the financial burden on rice farming families," he said.
Azan Saleh, another farmer, echoed these sentiments, noting that the support will alleviate the challenges faced by farmers, particularly those experiencing difficulties.
"I am grateful for this assistance as it isn't something we receive every year. It truly helps farmers like us," he said.
Norzeti Nordin also expressed appreciation for the government's aid, which comes at a time when farmers are waiting for their harvest, a process that can take up to four months.
"Alhamdulillah, the incentives provided by the government are very helpful. The harvesting process takes at least 100 days, and sometimes up to 115 days, so the wait can be quite long for farmers," he explained.
In Kedah, rice farmers welcomed the announcement, seeing it as a reflection of the government's genuine concern for their well-being.
The financial assistance can be used for purchasing pesticides, renting ploughing machinery, and other essential expenses, with hopes that the funds will be distributed quickly.
Farmer Roslan Ismail shared that the assistance will be put toward preparations for Ramadan and Aidilfitri.
"Alhamdulillah, the Prime Minister’s announcement will help reduce the burden, especially during Ramadan and Syawal. If there is any surplus, it will go toward the next phase of cultivating our rice fields. It’s not something we can spend frivolously," he said.
Md Saad Yaacob added that the assistance will also be useful for purchasing rice seeds, as well as covering expenses during Ramadan and Syawal.
"We support this kind of aid. It will help rice farmers, especially when it comes to plowing the land and buying seeds," he said.
The assistance provides vital relief to rice farmers, particularly as they prepare for Ramadan and Aidilfitri.
Additionally, farmers hope that the government will consider further support, such as increasing machinery rentals, providing incentives for fertilizer purchases, and repairing rivers near their rice fields.
