KUALA LUMPUR, February 25- The government is targeting a Bumiputera poverty rate of 0 percent by 2035.
To achieve this target, three main strategies have been set under the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35), including for Sabah Bumiputeras.
Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said the strategy includes access to education and healthcare, increased Bumiputera control in the economic sector, as well as efforts to strengthen economic awareness and empowerment.
"There is a need for us to adopt these 10 poorest districts as the adopted children of the Ministry of Economy, and this step will be tabled and implemented.
"I understand that six of the 10 poorest districts in Malaysia are located in Sabah.
"Therefore, I hope that efforts to eradicate poverty in Sabah can be accelerated," he said when answering a question from Putatan Member of Parliament, Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya, in the Dewan Rakyat today.
According to Rafizi, the government will optimise economic potential by focusing on high-value and high-growth industries (HGHV).
In addition, efforts are also being focused on increasing the scale of Bumiputera micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Sabah and Sarawak in the field of entrepreneurship, as well as creating a competent and competitive workforce.
