KUALA LUMPUR, February 25- A total of 7,600 shops nationwide have responded to the strategic efforts of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) through the "Say No to Single-Use Plastic Bags Campaign" since September last year.
Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming said the initiative also received support from several agencies such as the Malaysia Retail Association and the Malaysian Complex Management Association.
"This is a strategic effort by KPKT together with the industry in the retail sector to address the negative impact of single-use plastic, especially plastic carrier bags, on the environment and solid waste management in Malaysia," he said when answering a question from Selayang Member of Parliament, William Leong Jee Keen.
The Dewan Rakyat was also informed that the effort is in line with the government's desire to achieve a circular economy transformation by maximising resource efficiency and minimising waste generation.
