KLANG, 25 February– The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has the potential to empower Malaysia's news delivery as ASEAN Chair, particularly in the dissemination of information across multiple languages.

Deputy Minister of Communications, Teo Nie Ching said AI technology enables instant translation, ensuring news content is more accessible to a wider audience.

"Previously, we were limited in the use of language because the news produced had to be in Malay and English. However, in the ASEAN region, not everyone is fluent in English.

"With AI technology, we can provide instant translation, ensuring news content produced by RTM is watched by more viewers. This not only improves the effectiveness of news delivery, but also expands the audience's reach," she said at the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Digital Broadcasting Symposium (DBS) 2025, here.

Nie Ching also praised RTMKlik's initiative in introducing RTM ASEAN, which offers exclusive regional content to strengthen cross-border ties.

As part of that effort, seven new FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channels will be launched by March this year.
