Special Operation on Commercial Vehicles : 2,743 vehicles summons for various offences

During the operation, a total of 48,250 vehicles were inspected.

ALOR SETAR, 30 Oct - A total of 6,824 summons notices have been issued by The Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ) against 2,743 vehicles for various offences.

Five commercial vehicles were also seized for failure to comply with various road safety regulations and laws.

It is the result during a special operation on commercial vehicles conducted from Oct 1 to yesterday (Oct 29) here.

The one-month long operation involved 35 officers and members of various agencies, consisting of the Operations Unit, Kedah JPJ Enforcement Division; Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, JSJN PDRM; The North South Highway Project (PLUS) and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).

 "The daily operation from 10 am to 10 pm aims to reduce the rate of accidents, serious injuries and deaths on the highway in addition to reducing road congestion, especially on the highway, " Kedah JPJ director, Stien Van Lutam said, adding that, "It cultivates awareness to comply with the law as well as fosters a sense of guilt when committing violations of road rules among vehicle owners or drivers and increases the Perception of Being Caught (POBC) through enforcement.

This operation focuses on violations of the law related to technical offences, traffic offenses and major offences.

During the operation, a total of 48,250 vehicles were inspected.

"Out of that, five commercial vehicles that we have confiscated for various offences, for example Competent Driving Licence (CDL), no goods vehicle license (GDL), expired Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM), expired insurance and also the vehicle we found to be carrying excess loads.

"We take this matter seriously and we call on all vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles are always in good condition before starting to drive", he told reporters when met at the Hutan Kampung Toll Plaza here last night (Oct 29).

During the operation, three individuals in their 20s to 40s were also arrested by AADK for tested positive for Methaphetamine.
