GEORGE TOWN, 12 February- Along with the evolution of broadcasting, Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) introduced a new platform using Metaverse technology or interconnected virtual world technology to expand its reach to radio listeners.
Through the platform, 34 RTM radio stations are brought together in a virtual world that allows listeners to interact with each other as well as with the digital environment in the form of avatars.
According to RTM Radio Program Division Director, Saifuzzaman Yusop, RTM continues to implement various initiatives to ensure that the radio station remains relevant to technological developments.
"We need to constantly transform. This evolution will make RTM the leader in radio broadcasting in Malaysia. This year, we will implement a new platform using Metaverse to bring all RTM stations closer to listeners. In the future, all RTM radio stations will have the ability to broadcast from anywhere," he said after the Bicara Bisma segment on Konti Mutiara FM here today.
Metaverse developed by Radio RTM combines virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to create a more interactive and immersive experience or allow users to experience the real thing in the virtual world.
In the meantime, he also stated that RTM radio will continue to play a role as the main medium in disseminating information, educating the public, as well as inspiring listeners to be more concerned about the issue of climate change.
"Radio plays a significant role in educating the public and conveying information related to climate change. As a trusted medium, radio is able to raise awareness, share experiences and inspire listeners to act and prepare to face disasters at any time," he said.
Meanwhile, World Radio Day 2025 will be celebrated tomorrow at Bukit Bendera, Penang with RTM Penang as the host.
Themed "Radio dan Perubahan Iklim", this celebration emphasized the role of radio in raising awareness of environmental issues as well as disaster preparedness.
