SUBANG JAYA, 1 April- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced cash assistance of RM5,000 for owners of completely destroyed homes and RM2,500 for those with partially damaged homes, following the gas pipeline fire incident in Putra Heights this morning.
He also requested government machinery, including the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), to hold discussions with residents' representatives.
"For immediate steps in the next day or two, Petronas, and if necessary the Federal Government, will assess the need to add to, and will provide RM5,000 immediately for the completely damaged houses so that they can have temporary expenses. And those affected, which are more than 100 (houses), will be given RM2,500," he said.
He said this when met by reporters after visiting the site of the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, here.
He also saidthe main cause of the incident is still under investigation by the relevant authorities and maintenance work will continue until completion.
Regarding the recovery process in the area, he informed that it is expected to take a long time and will involve cooperation between Petronas and the state government.
"The priority is safety. The fire department, thank you to all the personnel who acted quickly, and the police report was also made promptly. This cooperation has helped Petronas and the State Government to take immediate action," Anwar said.
"So far it is under control. That’s why I chose to go and see the site itself to prove that it is safe," he added.
Immediate initial assistance has been provided to the affected residents, encompassing medical aid and the establishment of a temporary evacuation center (PPS) at the Putra Heights Mosque Multipurpose Hall.
The Prime Minister visited the incident site accompanied by the Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, as well as representatives from Petronas, the police and fire department, and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).
