KAMPUNG GAJAH, December 22 – A 39-year-old policeman was reportedly swept away by strong currents while taking a dip with his friends in a deep irrigation canal along Jalan Utama Changkat Lada, here, this evening.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Commander, Abdul Rahman Peie, announced that his department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 2.47 pm.

“The victim, who is a policeman at one of the District Police Headquarters (IPD) in Melaka, is believed to have been swept away by strong currents during a dip in the deep irrigation canal with his friends,” he said in a statement.

The fire brigade is currently conducting a search operation by walking along the cliffs along the irrigation canal.

The water depth at the location of the incident is estimated to be 4 metres.

Efforts to search for the victim are still ongoing.
