KUALA TERENGGANU, January 26- A total of 21 blackspot locations or areas prone to accidents have been identified by the Terengganu Police during the Chinese New Year (CNY) festive season.
The Terengganu Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin, stated that five of these locations are in the Besut district.
"Marang has four locations, Hulu Terengganu (three), Kemaman (two), Dungun (two), Kuala Terengganu (two), Setiu (two), and Kuala Nerus (one)," he said at the launch of the 2025 Chinese New Year Road Safety Campaign at the state level in Terengganu.
Additionally, he noted that the police have identified 34 locations frequently experiencing traffic congestion due to the increase in vehicle movements during the festive season.
Mohd Khairi also mentioned that over 400 officers and personnel will be on duty for patrols and stationed at the identified blackspots as part of 'Op Selamat 23', which begins this Tuesday.
"We hope that with Op 23, there will be a reduction in accidents," he added.
Meanwhile, Mohd Khairi reported that the number of summonses issued during 'Op Selamat 21' increased by over 98 percent, totaling 13,405 compared to 8,874 during 'Op Selamat 19'.
