PUTRAJAYA, January 26- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will make an official visit to Malaysia tomorrow at the invitation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim.
According to a statement from Wisma Putra, Prabowo will be accompanied by cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
This visit reflects the close friendship between Malaysia and Indonesia.
It will also be the first visit by a foreign Head of State to Malaysia following the coronation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, and the first visit by President Prabowo to Southeast Asia since his appointment as President on October 20, 2024.
During this visit, President Prabowo will be welcomed with a State Reception Ceremony and will meet with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Sultan Ibrahim will also host President Prabowo and his delegation at a State Banquet.
President Prabowo is expected to meet with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional and international issues of mutual interest.
"As neighboring countries and founding members of ASEAN, this State Visit symbolizes both nations' commitment to elevate bilateral relations for the prosperity and progress of both countries and the ASEAN region," the statement said.
The harmonious and strategic ties cover various areas of comprehensive cooperation, including politics, economy, defense, connectivity, education, and socio-cultural aspects.
From January to November 2024, the total bilateral trade between the two countries reached RM106.06 billion, an increase from RM101.99 billion recorded during the same period in 2023.
In 2023, Indonesia was Malaysia's eighth largest trading partner globally and the third largest in ASEAN, with total trade amounting to RM111.21 billion.
