KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 - Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is currently working closely with the Federal Government, the Sarawak Government, and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) to outline details on Petros' future role as the state's gas aggregator.

In a statement, Petronas stressed that the effort is aimed at ensuring that the rights and interests of all parties, including end customers and investors, are duly taken into account.

“Priority will be given to ensuring certainty in the investment climate,” the statement said in response to media reports on the progress of the collaboration between Petronas and Petros.

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had announced that the Federal government would hold a meeting with the Sarawak government to detail the scope of collaboration between the two companies.

The discussions aimed to explore opportunities for collaboration in any new projects that will be implemented.

In February, the Prime Minister confirmed that Petronas would continue to fulfill all domestic and international contractual obligations, while Petros would act as Sarawak's gas aggregator in line with the state's ordinance on gas distribution which came into effect on March 1st.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said also confirmed Petros' role as the state gas aggregator, but it does not include liquefied natural gas (LNG).
