PUTRAJAYA, April 14- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised that ASEAN is among the most peaceful regions and records the fastest economic growth in the world.
He explained that this strength needs to be fully utilized so that ASEAN is no longer underestimated by the world's major powers.
"ASEAN is among the most peaceful regions and a major driver of the world's economy. With these two strengths, it's impossible for any country or major power to underestimate or marginalize our strength," he said.
The Prime Minister added that the domestic strength of each ASEAN member state is a crucial foundation for strengthening regional cooperation, particularly in addressing global issues.
It also serves as a foundation for formulating a joint economic approach to defend the region's interests in global negotiations.
He said this during the Ministry of Finance’s monthly gathering, here, today.
Anwar also informed that the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) initiative has the potential to be a key catalyst in strengthening regional economic integration, in addition to attracting more foreign investment.
He explained that the initial project between Petronas and PetroVietnam will involve the installation of a subsea cable from Vietnam to Kota Bharu, Kelantan, before being connected to the southern Peninsular using the existing grid towards Singapore.
He added that the initiative is part of ASEAN's long-term plan to ensure energy stability and strengthen cross-border trade relations more efficiently.
