KUCHING, Nov 16- Petra Jaya Hospital in Kuching is expected to commence operations in the third quarter of 2025.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad stated that the project is progressing well, with over 80 percent of construction work completed.

He emphasised that the ministry would not tolerate any further delays in the project timeline and urged the contractors to adhere to the target completion date.

The minister expressed regret over the prolonged construction period caused by the failure of the original contractor to complete the project, which began in 2013.

“We will not allow any further delays by contractors in completing this project. We must ensure the hospital is operational by the third quarter of next year,” he said.

He made the remarks during a press conference after officiating the MADANI Afiat Program for the Sarawak Region and the 2024 National Malaysia Sihat Agenda Tour at Dataran Perayaan, Petra Jaya, Negeri Stadium Complex, Kuching, today.

Earlier in his speech, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad called on both the federal and state governments to work together in raising awareness about early health screenings, particularly at the grassroots level in rural communities.

This initiative aims to prevent the rise of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) from becoming a widespread national concern.

The program featured various activities, including health screenings, exhibitions from 43 strategic partner agencies, Rahmah Sales, interactive showcases, and activities involving federal and Sarawak state agencies.

The event aligns with the Health Ministry's nationwide approach to promoting health and well-being among local communities.
