KUANTAN, February 23- The Pahang Islamic Religious Council and Malay Customs (MUIP) has allocated RM734,795 for this year to finance National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans for asnaf students.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Baitulmal and Operations) of MUIP, Dr Asmadi Abdul Rahman said the assistance was given to 58 asnaf students registered under MUIP who obtained excellent results.
"This year, Alhamdulillah, RM734,795 has been allocated for 58 recipients. The increase in amount proves the efforts of MUIP and the zakat department in expanding educational assistance to the needy.
"Indirectly, it provides more opportunities for students to pursue higher studies without financial constraints," he said.
He also informed that the amount of financing increased compared to RM283,082 given to 33 students last year.
According to him, students who obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 to 3.49 are eligible to receive 70 percent financing, while students with a CGPA of 3.5 and above are fully covered.
Dr Asmadi said this when speaking at the PTPTN Anak Asnaf Cemerlang 2024 Financing Presentation Ceremony here.
