PUTRAJAYA, May 2 – No enforcement action or legal summons will be issued during the initial three-month implementation period of the Drug Price Display Order, which commenced on May 1, according to Dr. Azuana Ramli, Deputy Director-General of Health (Pharmaceutical Services), Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).
Dr. Azuana stated that the primary objective during this period would be educational enforcement, aimed at ensuring that all relevant stakeholders gain a clear and thorough understanding of the Order’s requirements.
“This phase will serve as a learning process for all parties involved. The provisions of the Order clearly outline the necessary steps and implementation methods,” he said during a media briefing on the Drug Price Display Initiative held today.
“Over the course of these three months, we will observe how the Order is implemented in practice. This stage is intended to foster awareness, understanding, and compliance.”
Also in attendance at the briefing was Datuk Azman Adam, Director-General of Enforcement, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).
The Drug Price Display Initiative, enforced at private healthcare facilities and community pharmacies under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723), officially came into effect on May 1.
This initiative seeks to enhance price transparency within the pharmaceutical sector and safeguard consumers' rights by empowering them to make informed decisions regarding the cost of medical treatment.
