PETALING JAYA, 5 January- A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude occurred in Mindanao, Philippines at 5.16 pm this afternoon.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) said in a statement that the earthquake with a depth of 122 kilometers (km) occurred at a distance of 111 kilometers southeast of Davao, Philippines.
The earthquake's epicenter was at coordinates 6.5° north and 126.7° east.
However, there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
