JOHOR BAHRU, April 14 - Malaysia will send 35 medical officers from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) to Myanmar to carry out a humanitarian mission, following the earthquake disaster that occurred in the country on March 28.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the proposal was made after the Federal Government agreed in principle to establish a Malaysian Field Hospital in the country.

"The capacity and location of the hospital will be determined after obtaining permission from the Myanmar government. Malaysia will also seek the cooperation of the Myanmar government to identify a safe location for the operation of the field hospital," said Khaled Nordin.

He said this after officiating a petrol pump station in Bandar Seri Alam, here.

The field hospital will provide orthopaedic and trauma treatment, providing emergency surgery for victims with injuries such as broken bones.

The treatment can reduce the risk of disability for the victims involved.
