KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 - A total of 600 asnaf and children were celebrated by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) in conjunction with the Rahmah Syawal MADANI program: Jalinan Aidilfitri Bersama Asnaf which was held at the FELDA Perdana Hall, in the capital.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr. Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said that MAIWP allocated zakat funds amounting to approximately RM138,000, involving special cash contributions of RM200 and souvenirs worth RM120 to 400 asnaf.
In addition, a total of 200 asnaf children also received duit raya of RM50 each.
"MAIWP always plays an ongoing role in ensuring that zakat collections received from zakat payers through PPZ-MAIWP are distributed to the deserving groups.
"Therefore, the ceremony held today is part of various programs designed by MAIWP to celebrate the asnaf group," he said here.
Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, MAIWP Chairman, Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer, and Director-General of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), Datuk Dr. Sirajuddin Suhaimee.
Meanwhile, Na'im also informed that from January to April 21, 2025, MAIWP has distributed zakat funds totaling RM314 million to the asnaf group through various initiatives and aid clusters in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
Among the assistance channeled include the Welfare Assistance Cluster, Asnaf Development Cluster, MAIWP Institution, Wakalah, Amil Division Zakat Distribution and various other initiatives.
