PUTRAJAYA, March 31- Local authorities (PBT) and small traders must fulfill their respective responsibilities with trust and accountability to maintain harmony and promote shared interests.

In a statement, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming emphasized that PBTs should carry out their duties with integrity, while traders must ensure they follow the law by securing valid licenses or permits before conducting business.

“I recognize that many small traders are working hard to make a living during this festive season. At the same time, PBTs have the duty to ensure that business areas remain safe and comfortable for the public,” he said.

“Cooperation and mutual understanding between both parties are essential to community harmony. Therefore, in the event of any issues or disputes, we must seek rational solutions to prevent incidents that could disrupt peace,” he added.

Nga reassured that his ministry would continue to ensure that all local authorities adhere to the established standard operating procedures during enforcement actions, enabling smooth business operations while safeguarding the well-being of the community.

This comes after a video of a confrontation between Kuala Lumpur City Hall enforcers and a balloon vendor, Muhamad Za’imuddin Azlan, went viral, sparking widespread reactions. The case is currently under investigation by the police.
