BATU PAHAT, 2 May - A 57-year-old local man lost RM330,400 after falling victim to a non-existent international investment scam.

The victim received a message via WhatsApp last January from an individual offering stock investments in Hong Kong.

Batu Pahat District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani, said the victim, who was attracted by the offer of high returns, then expressed interest in participating in the investment.

The victim then contacted the suspect for further clarification regarding the investment.

"Between 19 February and 18 March, 2025, the victim made phased money transfers to two different bank accounts, involving a total amount of RM330,400," he said in a statement.

"The victim was also promised higher returns if they made additional payments," he added.

The victim then realized he had been deceived after failing to receive any returns as promised, before filing a police report.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
