KUALA LUMPUR, April 20- Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, has called for strict action to be taken against incomplete or inaccurate Jalur Gemilang displays.
So far, at least five police reports have been lodged over the latest incident involving the display of the Jalur Gemilang at a baby products trade exhibition at a shopping mall in the capital.
The Unity Government's coalition party of the Lembah Pantai Parliamentary constituency has lodged a police report regarding the incident.
According to Datuk Fahmi, they also urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963 (Act 414) and the National Emblems (Control of Display) Act 1949 (Act 193).
"Yesterday we were shaken up by an incident believed to have occurred in Mid Valley in the Lembah Pantai area, involving an incomplete display of the Jalur Gemilang. It did not have a crescent moon.
"We will leave this to the police to investigate and if the police find that there is anything that has violated the law, then we request that strict action be taken against the party concerned", he said.
He said this after attending the Persatuan Waris Kerinchi Aidilfitri Celebration event at Surau Al Mukmin, Bukit Kerinchi, Kuala Lumpur.
Recently, the incomplete display of Jalur Gemilang at the backstage of a company's booth at a sales exhibition went viral on social media. It was found to be missing a crescent moon, leading to public criticism.
The design on the backstage screen only displayed 14 stripes and a 14-pointed star without a crescent moon, thus causing confusion and dissatisfaction among the public.
