SHAH ALAM, 12 February– The government will continue to monitor any unreasonable increase in express bus fares, especially during the festive seasons.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke asserted that even though an additional charge of 10 percent is allowed, strict action will be taken if there are parties who take advantage by raising fares excessively.
"For the festive seasons, an additional charge of 10 percent has been allowed for the past ten years in conjunction with festive seasons such as Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
"However, if there is an increase that is unreasonable or too high, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) will monitor and take appropriate action. For regular express buses, fares are controlled and cannot be increased at will, except for executive bus services," he said.
He said this to reporters after the Exio Logistics Hub ground-breaking ceremony in Elmina here.
