JOHOR BAHRU, March 20– Five men, including two Taiwanese nationals, were arraigned in the Johor Bahru Magistrate’s Court today on three charges of drug trafficking in Iskandar Puteri, earlier this month.
However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The first accused, Liong Boon Siong, 27, faces two charges of trafficking in dangerous drugs, Methamphetamine weighing 3.8 kilogrammes and 3,4-MDMA weighing 20 kilogrammes. The offences were allegedly committed in Iskandar Puteri on March 6th.
In separate proceedings, four other men; Chow Zhi Peng, 30; Yeap Jun Le, 22; and two Taiwanese nationals, Peng Wei Sung and Liu Yu Ting – nodded in understanding after the charges were read out in Mandarin before Magistrate Atifah Hazimah Wahab.
According to the charges, they were jointly charged with trafficking dangerous drugs suspected to be MDMA in Gelang Patah, Iskandar Puteri, on the same date.
All three charges were made under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and are punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same act, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
The court set June 19th as the date for the case to be mentioned again for the submission of the chemical report. No bail was offered to all the accused.
