JOHOR BAHRU, March 15 - An elderly person died while four others survived a fire incident involving three terraced houses at Jalan Permas 2/4, Taman Permas Jaya, Masai here at midnight.

Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Operations Commander Senior Fire Superintendent II Saifulbahri Mahpop said 33 personnel including those from BBP Pasir Gudang and the Mount Austin Volunteer Fire Brigade were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 12.13 am.

He said the deceased was Md Aris Samar, 84, while his daughter Hamizah, 57, and three grandchildren Ezzatty Haida Affendy, 21, Ezzatty Hazrina, 18 and Ezzatty Hadirah, 16 survived.

“The fire involved three terraced houses with permanent steel structures, each measuring 20x15 feet. Two houses were 20 percent damaged while the other was 80 percent destroyed.

“The deceased, whose house was 80 percent destroyed, was found burnt on the top floor,” he said in a statement today.

Saifulbahri said the fire-extinguishing operation ended at 3.09 am.
