DAVOS, Jan 22- Dialogue and pragmatic collaboration are key in navigating complex international relations, especially in the context of Malaysia's engagement with major powers such as the United States (US) and China.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said it was important for the country to engage cautiously and constructively.
"I haven’t had the chance to engage with US President Donald Trump, but from what I see in his pronouncements, I believe he will approach matters pragmatically," he said.
"I think he also knows that the interest of United States, with interdependence, with globalised trade, that require him to listen to the diverse interests outside, including China,” he said.
Anwar said this at the ‘Country Strategy Dialogue’ session, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Summit 2025, here.
The Prime Minister also reiterated ASEAN's potential as a model for unity and cooperation by highlighting Malaysia's multicultural society in efforts to foster peace in the wake of current global tensions.
In another development, Anwar said Malaysia is not in pressing need to adopt nuclear power.
He said Malaysia still sees much potential in solar power and the ASEAN Power Grid (APG).
"The energy consumption energy of data centres is huge and in every meeting, people have been suggesting they want to put up small modular reactors. That's part of the overall artificial intelligence (AI)," he said.
"Malaysia, along with Indonesia and Thailand, are starting this step. I am trying to move together to ensure that the financial position is at a good level," he added.
