Communication Carnival: Increase awareness of online behaviour

Teo Nie Ching at Angkasapuri/TM

KUALA LUMPUR, September 5 - The theme 'Communication Literacy, Harmonious Future', which was highlighted in the 2024 Communication Carnival, is a crucial step to increase public awareness on how to manage online behaviour.

Deputy Minister of Communications, Teo Nie Ching emphasised that communication literacy also plays a role in fostering empathy and respect for fellow citizens.

"We want to educate the community to be more literate in the communication and digital realm. This is important to ensure harmony in our society.

"How can we educate the public to enjoy faster internet speeds and better coverage... at the same time being digitally literate users, protecting themselves from being victims, and being responsible not to spread information that of questionable validity," she said when met by an RTM reporter in Angkasapuri here today.

The first series of the Communication Carnival 2024 will take place at Hutan Bandar Putra, Kulai, Johor this Friday and Saturday.

This carnival is a continuation of the Broadband Promotion Plan initiative organised by the Ministry of Communications since 2015. Among the activities offered include parades by telecommunications service providers, digital games, and lucky draws.

In addition, there are also folk sports, mini concerts, music performances, as well as direct services from various agencies such as the summons payment counter by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Jom Al-Quran Exchange Programme by the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN), and stamp printing with a personalised photo by Pos Malaysia.

A total of three series of carnivals will be held this year through strategic collaboration with TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd.
