LANGKAWI,  Jan 19- The organization of ASEAN 2025 meetings in Langkawi is also used as a platform to promote tourism sports events.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Langkawi Development Board (LADA), Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid, said a total of 132 events were listed in the Langkawi Events Calendar (KAL) 2025.

She said, 36 of them involved sports events.

"Of the 132, more than 50 percent are programs involving international programs and LADA took the opportunity in conjunction with the Asean Retreat ASEAN meetings held in Langkawi to promote the product to the delegations that come, so that it can be announced to a wider audience," he said.

She was met by the report after being a guest of Selamat Pagi Malaysia show in Langkawi, Kedah, today.

Meanwhile, former national badminton player Teh Chong Chen said sports tourism on the legendary island often gets high participation from participants from ASEAN countries.

"This is important for the development of sports tourism in Langkawi and considering that Langkawi has international standard sports facilities," said Chong Chen.

There are three important events in conjunction with the 2025 ASEAN Meeting in Langkawi, namely the Financial Track Meeting which took place from 14 to 15 January.

It will be followed by the Residence of ASEAN Foreign Ministers and the Special Meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on Energy from January 21 to 23.
