KUCHING, Dec 30- Approximately 1,500 new teachers were appointed and will be of service in Sarawak starting next year.
The Director of the Sarawak Education Department, Omar Mahli, stated that this group of new teachers is expected to report for duty as early as mid-January of 2025.
Omar explained that of the 12,000 appointments, only 1,500 are needed.
Therefore, 1,200 teachers are assigned to primary schools while the remaining are assigned to secondary schools across Sarawak.
He explained this to the media after paying a courtesy visit to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, at his office this morning.
This inaugural visit was to inform about his appointment as the new Director of Education for Sarawak.
He began his duties on December 2, replacing Datu Dr. Azhar Ahmad, who retired in November.
