KUALA LUMPUR, 21 March- Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) today announced an order for 30 new aircraft from The Boeing Company as part of its fleet modernization strategy.
The acquisition, comprising 18 Boeing 737-8 aircraft and 12 Boeing 737-10 aircraft, was officially launched by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, today.
According to him, the investment in the new aircraft is not just a step to renew the country's aviation fleet, but also a crucial strategy in strengthening Malaysia's position as a key player in the global aviation industry.
"This step will strengthen Malaysia's position as a key player in the global aviation industry and reinforce the country's economic foundation in an increasingly competitive world," he said.
"The aviation sector has always been a catalyst for economic progress, opening up opportunities for trade, tourism, and other new possibilities," Anwar added.
"For decades, the national carrier, Malaysia Airlines, has been not just an airline but also a national icon that carries the country's flag and spirit around the world," he said.
Anwar said in his speech at the Document Exchange Ceremony for the aircraft.
Through this acquisition, MAG will gradually replace the older generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by Malaysia Airlines, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and passenger experience.
