Water Retention Bund: Bank stabilisation works to be completed in a month

Datuk Ir Izham Hashim

KUALA SELANGOR, Jan 1- Works to stabilise the bank and retaining walls at the water reservoir near Taman Seri Alam, Saujana Utama, is expected to be completed within a month as a short-term measure to prevent flooding.

Selangor Infrastructure Exco, Datuk Ir Izham Hashim, said the developer will stabilise the bank and deepen the catchment pool area to control the water level, apart from replacing the temporary structure with a permanent wall.

"The priority at the moment is to repair and stabilise the collapsed bund structure and retaining wall.

"A long-term solution is to upgrade drains and ditches and deepen the catchment pool.

"The original target was two months, but the works were completed in just two days. Currently, the water level has risen by more than three meters. We want to maintain the maximum level of two meters.

"A comprehensive study has been done, including some recommendations from the state. We will improve this system to ensure more efficient water drainage capacity as a long-term measure," he said.

He said this to reporters after visiting the pool site here on Tuesday.

In addition, ditches and drains in the surrounding area will also be upgraded to increase the water flow capacity to Sungai Buloh.

The pool was built in 2015 based on a rubber wall design with a height of 0.2 meter. The weak design was not able to hold the overflowing water up to a height of 0.3 meters, thus causing the bund to burst and flood 200 homes in Taman Seri Alam.
