KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25- The Mental Health Crisis Helpline, or HEAL Line 15555, has received over 68,502 calls for assistance.
Suicide cases among men in the country have increased fourfold compared to women since 2019, according to Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
Lukanisman revealed that data shows a drastic rise, with 187 cases reported last year compared to 166 cases in 2019.
He emphasised that the prevalence of suicide cases now presents a significant health challenge that requires attention from all stakeholders, including members of parliament.
Since its establishment, the HEAL Line has received 68,502 calls, with 62% of callers provided with support and assistance.
Mental health services have been expanded to 1,088 health clinics, 68 psychiatric hospitals, four mental health institutions, and 37 community mental health centers (Mentari).
Digital efforts have also been introduced through the MySejahtera app to facilitate access to mental health services.
The Deputy Minister further urged the media to report suicide cases responsibly through the MySave program to reduce the risk of “suicide imitation” in the community.
“Mental health is a shared responsibility. The strategic measures undertaken will ensure effective support for those in need,” he stated during the Dewan Rakyat session.
