Special Economic Zones attract more investments - Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, August 7 - Malaysia has proposed to Thailand to involve private sectors and start-up companies in establishing a Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to attract more investments into these zones.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the proposal was made to Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa during a courtesy call on Tuesday.

“Their involvement (private sectors and start-up companies) can attract more investments into SEZ. In fact I also suggested that Kelantan take this opportunity to build business spaces along the Sungai Golok,” Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said through his Facebook post.

In the meeting, they also discussed the outcome of his working visit with Thai Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin to Sungai Golok, Thailand and Rantau Panjang, Kelantan last Saturday.

During the working visit, both leaders also discussed the rubber sector and the food industry.

Datuk Seri Anwar, through the same Facebook post, informed that he and Maris also discussed dredging the Sungai Golok estuary to address the flood issue in order to help communities along the border of both countries.

Additionally, he also stated Malaysia’s commitment to the Southern Thailand Peace Dialogue Process.
