KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 - Unity Minister, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, issued a stern warning to all parties not to repeat the act of spreading statements that are provocative, insulting, and denigrating religion on social media platforms.
The warning refers to the actions of a handful of netizens, especially individuals named Vijayan Savarinathan, Zamri Vinoth, Saravanan Sanmugom and Crime_Man (name on the Tik Tok application) and others who spread statements that are provocative, insulting, and ridicule religion and sensitivities related to the 3R (Race, Religion Royalty) issue on social media platforms.
He said it was an act that was completely unacceptable while stressing that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) must take immediate action against individuals involved in spreading the irresponsible content.
"Strict action must be taken under Sections 298, 504, and 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 to ensure that the security and harmony of the community continues to be maintained," he said in a statement last night.
Aaron also announced that the Ministry of Unity will strengthen the implementation of the Speak Kindly Campaign and promote the principles of national integration through the concepts of Understanding, Respecting and Accepting through various public education programmes.
He reminded every individual to use cyberspace responsibly and not cause division or tension in society.
"Acts of insulting religion and racial sensitivity are threats to national peace. Provocative actions that ignore the feelings of other religions and races can damage the harmony that we have built together," he said.
