KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 25- The police will deploy about 40 officers and personnel at the Al-Muktafi Billah Shah Mosque (Ladang Mosque) to monitor the security and smooth running of the caning process this Friday.
Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor in a statement announced that his party will not hesitate to take strict action against any individual or group who tries to provoke officers or offenders on that day.
"Only 70 individuals are allowed to enter the room where the whipping is carried out.
"I would like to advise the public who are present at the Ladang Mosque this Friday to leave immediately after completing their Friday prayers," according to the statement.
Meanwhile, the public is reminded not to gather outside or around the mosque compound as it is feared that it could disrupt the smooth running of the whipping process.
"Any recording is not allowed. The police will conduct inspections to ensure that no electronic or telecommunications devices are brought into the whipping room. The punishment has been decided. I request all parties to respect the law and not create chaos," the statement added.
This Friday, a carpenter, Mohd Affendi Awang, 42, will become the first individual in Terengganu to be sentenced to six strokes of the cane in public.
The Kuala Terengganu Syariah High Court handed down the sentence on November 20 after the man pleaded guilty to the offence of repeated khalwat (close proximity) offences under Section 31 (a) of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Takzir) (Terengganu) Amendment Enactment 2022 for khalwat.
