PUTRAJAYA, April 28- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar praised Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s on the country stance on Israel.

This includes his bold decision to bar Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives, calling it a courageous and principled stand against ongoing violence.

Anwar stated that the move was in line with the principles of human rights and universal justice, while stressing that Malaysia shared the same sentiments and inspiration on the issue.

"We share the same sentiments and aspirations, and I have stated, on behalf of the government and the people of Malaysia, that we greatly respect President Muizzu's courage for the principles he upholds," he said during a press conference with President Muizzu today in conjunction with his four-day official visit to Malaysia that began yesterday.

In addition, the two countries also identified several new areas to explore together including floating solar energy, defence and digitalisation.

According to the Prime Minister, the move is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Maldives to a higher level with a focus on sustainable development as well as cooperation in technology and regional security.

Muizzu's visit to Malaysia, his first since becoming president in November 2023, is at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
