SUBANG, March 19 - PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) expects more than 2.2 million vehicles to use its highway network every day during peak days in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration.
According to PLUS Chief Operating Officer, Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi, the traffic is expected to increase between March 27 to 29, as well as April 4 to 6, following the Aidilfitri celebration on March 31 and April 1.
"With the help of the authorities, we will activate 28 smartlanes in strategic areas. For Chinese New Year, we will opened 25 smartlanes."
"So for Hari Raya, we are adding three more new locations. Based on feedback from road users, these smartlanes are very effective and have succeeded in reducing congestion," he said.
Meanwhile, Datuk Zakaria also announced that the ban on heavy vehicles will be enforced two days before and two days after the celebration.
PLUS also introduced a new feature in the MyPLUS-TTA mobile application, allowing users to plan their journeys more efficiently throughout the festive season.
In conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration, more than 5,000 officers will be deployed along the PLUS Highway and LPT2.
However, the public is advised to plan their travel time in advance and adhere to the Recommended Travel Time (TTA) schedule provided.
He said this at a briefing session on PLUS's preparations for increased traffic in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri here.
The ceremony was also attended by the Director of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri and the Director of the Central Region of the Malaysian Highway Authority Dr Mohammed Ridzuan Jahidin.
Also present was the Deputy Director of Operations of the Enforcement Division of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) of Malaysia Tan Kim Loon.
Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri informed that his party has identified 25 hotspot areas and 46 black spot areas on highways nationwide.
Further details on the matter will be announced at the launch of Op Selamat scheduled for March 23.
"We, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), will always cooperate with the Plus party to ensure safety awareness and traffic flow is always good."
"In addition, we will ensure that any vehicle involved in an accident will be resolved immediately," he said.
