BUKIT MERTAJAM, March 27 – The Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) will implement the Enforcement Action Camera (EAC) in conjunction with Aidilfitri this year.
The implementation of the EAC enables the JPJ to detect traffic offences more quickly and efficiently.
The Penang State JPJ Director, Zulkifli Ismail, said the use of the camera is placed under the Motorcycle Enforcement Unit (UPB), which is now known as the Falcon Unit.
Apart from focusing on four blackspot locations in the state, enforcement also involves all five districts, including Seberang Perai Utara on the Jalan Butterworth – Sungai Dua – Sungai Petani route and Seberang Perai Tengah on the Jalan Baru Perai – Bukit Mertajam – Jalan Perai – Seberang Jaya route
He said this at a press conference after inspecting the HRA Integrated Ops with enforcement agencies at the Juru North Direction Toll Plaza, Juru.
The operation, which took place from 8.30 to 11.30 pm yesterday (Wednesday), involved 43 members. A total of 603 vehicles were inspected, with 64 vehicles taken into action.
A total of 93 notices were also issued for various offences, while a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) driven by a foreigner was seized.
The operation also received strategic cooperation from several state enforcement agencies, including the Police Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and the Department of Environment (DOE).
Meanwhile, during the operation, a urine screening test by the AADK found that a 45-year-old local container lorry driver tested positive for drugs. The man was handed over to the AADK for further investigation.
