GEORGE TOWN, Nov 17- Penang Department of Environment (DOE) issued 78 compounds through a four-day operation which ended yesterday.
Offenses include the diesel vehicle emitting excessive black smoke and motorcycle noise exceeding the maximum permitted limit.
Its director, Norazizi Adinan said a total of 553 vehicles were checked in the Ops Gerak Kebangsaan.
The operation focuses on four main locations in the state including Penang Bridge Toll Plaza, Lim Chong Eu Expressway, Sungai Dua Toll Plaza and Valdor.
"370 vehicles have been inspected for diesel engines and 39 diesel motorcycles were tested along with 44 motorcycles, 48 vehicles were retested, which include 28 diesel vehicles and nine motorcycles, 17 compounds issued for diesel, five for motorcycles and four prohibition order for diesel," he said this while attending the Ops Gerak Kebangsaan in conjunction with Ozone Day at the Penang Bridge.
The operation involved 100 members from six agencies from the Road Transport Department (JPJ), National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).
Until last November 11, as many as 187 compunds worth RM 374,000 were issued by the DOE of Penang through 50 operations.
